Peterman and Dauwalter named 2022 UltraRunners of the Year

Adam Peterman is the UltraRunner of the Year for 2022. He was unbeaten in four major races, setting course records at the Chuckanut 50k and the Canyons 100k. He won Western States in his debut 100-miler, and later in the year won the World Trail Championships 80k in Thailand.

Herron and Walmsley named #2 2022 UltraRunners of the Year

Herron had another strong year, winning three races outright. She set a course record at the venerable Strolling Jim 40-mile in Tennessee, set a world best for 100 miles on a track, and would have broken her own 100-mile World Record at the Jackpot Ultras but for a course measurement error.

Jones and Hogan named #3 2022 UltraRunners of the Year

Jones finished third at the mountainous Hardrock in 23:06, one of the fastest top 10 times ever recorded. Later in the year, he won the flat, fast Javelina 100 in course-record time. He is a mechanical engineering student and the executive director of Footprints Running Camps, which combine environmental activism and mountain athletics.

Hughes and Glick named #4 2022 UltraRunners of the Year

Hughes won four races during 2022, setting course records at the Cocodona 250 and the High Lonesome 100. Originally from Wisconsin, her family moved to Colorado when she was in high school. She currently lives in Leadville.

Sinclair and Schide named #5 2022 UltraRunners of the Year

Yanko and Hawks named #6 2022 UltraRunners of the Year

Despite being diagnosed with lupus in 2022, Yanko won six races during the year, highlighted by a course record and overall win at Umstead 100, and winning a Golden Ticket to Western States at Javelina.

Green and Hall named #7 2022 UltraRunners of the Year

Green had a busy year, running seven ultras and winning three of them. He also finished fourth at Western States. Green lives in Portland, Oregon, with his wife, Rachel Drake, and son, Lewis, where he is a middle school teacher and running coach.

Gallagher and Lewis named #8 2022 UltraRunners of the Year

Gallagher, who ran track and cross-country for Princeton University, had a very strong 2022, winning the Leadville Trail 100 and the Black Canyon 100k, and finishing a very close second at the San Juan Solstice 50.

Browning and Yingling named #9 2022 UltraRunners of the Year

Jeff Browning is ninth in the 2022 UROY voting. This marks the seventh time that Browning has notched a top-10 ranking in the annual UROY vote. At 51, he becomes the oldest male to ever be included in the UROY awards.

Brady and Lockwood named #10 2022 UltraRunners of the Year

Riley Brady is the 10th ranked female for 2022. Riley identifies as non-binary (but was born female and races in the female division) and works as a mechanic for Trek. They won four races during the year – three of them outright – and placed a close second at the Javelina 100.
