Old School Ultras keep us coming back year after year. Every runner is welcomed at aid stations and finish lines by a community that embraces the culture of ultrarunning. What is the culture of ultrarunning? Some might say it’s a celebration of the final finishers or the volunteers who return to a race each year to spend their time supporting runners. Whatever it is, these races have it.

This is a listing of the all-time best performances by North American residents. We list these as best times, not records, because many of these times have not been officially sanctioned or certified by USATF or any governing body. Nonetheless, the times are believed to be accurate. A ‘t’ next to the time indicates that the mark was set in a trail race, where the distance is believed to be accurate.
In 6 issues per year, UltraRunning magazine provides extensive coverage of all significant ultras in North America, as well as many major international races. We provide in-depth columns on training and nutrition, race reports, gear reviews and other ultrarunning related articles.
Unsolicited material is welcome, and will be reviewed by the editorial team for consideration. Please note: we do not re-publish articles that have been published elsewhere (blogs & websites).
